Don’t Forget to Remember!
Category : Teaching, Testimonies
I know we have all done it… If you are like me, God does something so amazing, so incredible in our life, and we are like
“God – You are so awesome, You’re the best! You must love me so much!”
And about a week or two later we are like
“God – Where are you? Why don’t you care? Do you even love me? My life is so horrible…”
Human beings have this awful problem — We forget. Why is it that we find it so easy to remember all the painful, hurtful things in our life, but we have such a hard time to remember the good things?? I want to propose to you that this ‘problem’ is the source of SO many other ‘problems’ in our life! When we fail to remember what God has done, it leads us down a path of darkness, destruction and eventually… death!
This is exactly what happened with the Israelites.
No sooner had Gideon died than the Israelites again prostituted themselves to Baal. They set up Baal-Berith as their god and did not remember the Lord their God, who had rescued them from the hands of all their enemies on every side. (Judges 8)
Think about it! After ALL the incredible miracles that God had done for them (delivering them from Egypt, manna from heaven, pillar of fire by day, cloud by night, parting the red sea, etc…) they went back to worshipping other gods, and eventually died in the wilderness. Why? Because they failed to remember what God had done for them. THAT single thing is where it all started! Their downward spiral into destruction started with them failing to remember what God had done.
My friend, don’t let this happen to you! Make a conscious choice and effort to REMEMBER! Remember what God has done for you. Go back. Rehearse it. Remind yourself. Celebrate what He has done! And then… Watch your LIFE CHANGE!
I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. (Psalms 77:11)
Remember the wonders he has performed, his miracles, and the rulings he has given (Psalms 105:5)
This is why testimonies are SO important. We need to keep ourselves constantly aware of God’s goodness!
